BEST GAMES OF THE ANDY REID ERA

DECEMBER 6, 2017 VS LOS ANGELES CHARGERS

After their 5-0 start in 2017, the Kansas City Chiefs had fallen to 6-6 at one point in the season. They beat the Raiders to go 7-6 and then welcomed in the Los Angeles Chargers for a big time game on Saturday night at Arrowhead.

The Chargers had an opposite start to their season, beginning with an 0-4 record and eventually chasing the Chiefs for the AFC West. That’s what this primetime game in week 15 would settle, who the winner of the division would be.

The Chiefs led 10-6 at half time, but the Chargers took the lead in the third quarter to go up 13-10. The Chargers had been pretty clutch during their hot streak, but Kansas City held them scoreless after that third quarter touchdown.

It was all Chiefs from there and Arrowhead was loving it. KC scored two touchdowns and kicked two field goals to put up 20 unanswered points over the Bolts. It was a big win for the Andy Reid era because it basically clinched the Chiefs’ chance at winning the AFC West for the second consecutive season, which was the first time they had ever done so.

  • Alex Smith went 23 of 30 for 231 yards and two touchdowns.
  • Kareem Hunt stole the show though, rushing for 155 yards and one touchdown while also hauling in seven catches for 51 yards and another touchdown through the air.
  • Tyreek Hill had five catches for 88 yards and a touchdown. 64 of those 88 yards came on one catch.
  • Philip Rivers had been clutch all season long, but six of his ten interceptions in 2017 came against the Chiefs. Three happened in this game with Marcus Peters getting two of them and Ron Parker hauling in the other one.
  • This was the eighth straight win for the Chiefs over the Chargers and their fourth straight season sweeping the Bolts.

While the 30-13 final wasn’t exactly riveting, the Kansas City Chiefs needed this game to win the division and they did just that. They took down one of the hottest teams in football and basically ensured that the Chargers would not be going to the postseason.
