BEST GAMES OF THE ANDY REID ERA

DECEMBER 8, 2016 VS OAKLAND RAIDERS

The 2016 season was a weird one, but one of the weirdest parts of the season was that the Oakland Raiders were actually GOOD. For over a decade, they had been near the basement of the league every year, so watching them contend for the division title was a strange sight.

In week 14 of the 2016 season, the Kansas City Chiefs were hosting the Oakland Raiders at Arrowhead Stadium for Thursday Night Football. The reason why this game was a huge one was because the Chiefs were currently sitting at 9-3 and the Raiders were 10-2 and leading the AFC West.

It was a cold night at Arrowhead, with the kickoff temperature sitting near 21 degrees and getting colder as the night progressed. That didn’t stop Chiefs Kingdom from showing up for a primetime game and it didn’t stop them from cheering as loud as possible.

This game came down to the wire, but the Chiefs’ strong second quarter, the only quarter in which they scored, was enough to give them the victory. This resulted in their second straight season sweeping the Raiders.

  • Alex Smith had just nine incompletions on the evening, throwing for 264 yards, one touchdown, and one interception.
  • Travis Kelce put on a show, grabbing five passes for 101 yards.
  • Derek Carr continued to struggle against the Chiefs, completing just 17 passes out of 41 attempts for 117 yards. He was awful.
  • Tyreek Hill returned a punt for a touchdown and that was where the short-lived Travis Kelce and Marquette King beef began… and basically ended.
  • This was the game where Carr threw a pass and looked like Amari Cooper was going to catch it and score, but the ball changed directions. Some people (mainly Raiders fans) blamed the NBC Skycam on why that ball was deflected.
  • The Raiders had a chance to tie the game late, but the Chiefs defense held on… or rather Derek Carr couldn’t do anything offensively.

As we all know, the Chiefs would go on to win the AFC West over the Raiders, but neither would make it past their first game in the playoffs so does it really matter now?
