BEST GAMES OF THE ANDY REID ERA

DECEMBER 4, 2016 VS ATLANTA FALCONS

After an exhilarating win in overtime over the Broncos, the Chiefs hit the road again for a game against the Atlanta Falcons. Atlanta was one of the hottest offensive teams in all of football (and went on to punch their ticket to the Super Bowl later that season) and Chiefs fans were terrified about facing Matt Ryan and Julio Jones, one of the deadliest combos in football.

The Chiefs carried a 20-16 lead at half time and Eric Berry helped big time with that. He picked off a Matt Ryan pass and took it 37 yards to the house. Even with a 27-16 lead, the Falcons weren’t out of it and roared back quickly.

Atlanta had a one-point lead with a little over four minutes to go and Chiefs fans were worried sick. Eric Berry decided he wasn’t done singlehandedly winning this game for his team.

When the Falcons attempted to go for the two-point conversion, Berry once again picked off Matt Ryan and ran the interception all the way back down the field for two points. That rule was fairly new at the time and Berry was one of the first to do it, if not the first.

The Chiefs held on for the 29-28 win in Atlanta and it was one of the most exciting wins the Chiefs ever had. Eric Berry deserves all the credit for this one.

  • Alex Smith’s stats weren’t mind-blowing, but he played well, throwing for 270 yards and a touchdown.
  • Albert Wilson took the football 55 yards on a fake punt. He snuck through the middle and ran it all the way down the field.
  • Julio Jones, as expected, torched the Chiefs. He had seven catches for 113 yards.
  • Berry, as mentioned, picked off Matt Ryan twice. Both went for touchdowns.
  • Out of the Chiefs’ 29 points, only 14 of them were offensive touchdowns. Both came from Spencer Ware, one rushing, one receiving.

This was the Eric Berry game and that’s what it’ll always be known as. Berry was playing in front of his family and friends and he had the game of his life. This game was the reason why Berry was rewarded with his mega contract and no Chiefs fans were upset about that.
