The football IQ on this team is abundant

Listening to each of the coaches press conferences at the newly remodeled kcchiefs.com, there is something that each consistently speaks on. That is the football IQ of this team.

It is apparent that what coach Reid and Brett Veach were after in free agency, the draft, and the undrafted free agents the Chiefs brought in was football IQ. The additions made this offseason all have one thing in common. They all understand football.

Whether it’s secondary coach Al Harris, offensive coordinator Eric Bienemy, or Justin Houston, they all speak about how smart the additions are.

Not only does this have the potential to help on the field during the season, but it makes the coaches job easier. The quickness that these new players are picking things up has been one of the most impressive things so far during the offseason program.

Not only did the Chiefs pick some of the most talented players at their position, but they also chose the smartest players at their position. Whether it’s Speaks moving from defensive end to outside linebacker or David Amerson coming from a different scheme altogether, these guys are fully understanding what the Chiefs want them to do and how to do it.

The football smarts that the Chiefs have implemented for 2018 is a statement, not only to what type of atmosphere they want around this young team, but it’s a statement of achieving the ultimate goal, a championship ring.
