Kansas City Chiefs: Ranking every Chiefs starting quarterback since 2000
NUMBER 9: NICK FOLES
2016
Before he was a Super Bowl champion, Nick Foles backed up Alex Smith in the 2016 season. Foles had been released by the Rams prior to the preseason and chose to reunite with Andy Reid, the coach that drafted him in Philadelphia years prior.
Foles appeared in three games and started one for the Chiefs during the 2016 season. The one start he had came against the Jaguars in November after Smith had to sit out due to concussion-like symptoms.
In that game, Foles threw for 187 yards and one touchdown and the Chiefs would go on to win. It was a close victory for the Chiefs and Foles didn’t particularly play all that well. He had multiple passes that should have been picked off and that would have swung the game in the Jaguars’ favor.
While Foles’ lone start as a Chief wasn’t great, he was still better than a lot of other Chiefs starters so I put him near the middle of this list.
It stung a bit seeing Foles lead the Eagles to a Super Bowl, but while he was a Chief, Foles displayed signs of why he was still a backup at that time. He did win his lone start though, so that’s why he was better than some on here.
