Kansas City Chiefs: Ranking every Chiefs starting quarterback since 2000
NUMBER 10: KYLE ORTON
2011
Yes, Kyle Orton played for the Chiefs, but not for long. He was originally the Broncos starting quarterback in 2011, but after a 1-4 start in Denver and the Tim Tebow calls growing louder, Orton was benched and later waived by the team. The Chiefs claimed him off waivers not long after.
From there, Orton started three games for Kansas City and won two of them. The most memorable victory of the entire 2011 season was when the Chiefs hosted the undefeated Packers and ended up handing them their first (and only) loss that year.
Orton also knocked off the Broncos, his former team, in the season finale. Orton sure showed the Broncos what they were missing, as the guy they chose over him went 6 of 22 for 60 yards that day while Orton threw for 180 yards and led the Chiefs to victory.
Kyle Orton was a tougher player to rank because his numbers weren’t great, but he did win two of his three starts. Had he opted to return to Kansas City in 2012, he’d have been a huge upgrade over Brady Quinn, but Orton chose to sign with Dallas instead. He played there and with the Bills before calling it a career in 2014.
