NUMBER 11: WARREN MOON

2000

When I was rattling off every quarterback I could think of who started a game after 2000, I covered everybody except for one. That one quarterback I forgot about was Warren Moon, who did indeed start a game for the Chiefs in 2000 in what was his final year in the league.

Moon was a tremendous quarterback with the Oilers, but all quarterbacks get old and near the end of Moon’s career, he was playing second fiddle. He spent two years with the Chiefs to close out his Hall of Fame career and backed up Elvis Grbac in both years.

Grbac was injured during the 2000 season, so Moon got the start in a game in late November of 2000. Moon didn’t look very good in his final NFL start, going 12 of 31 for 130 yards with an interception and was sacked five times.

Moon was obviously a great quarterback during his time in the NFL, but this list isn’t based off of what guys did in their entire career. It’s a ranking of how these players were post-2000 and in their Chiefs careers only.

Warren Moon spent the last two years of his career in Kansas City, but it’s certainly not when he was at the top of his game. It’s a bummer to put him this low, but by the end of his career, he was definitely lacking what once made him one of the all-time greats. It is cool that he was a Kansas City Chief though.
