Kansas City Chiefs: Ranking every Chiefs starting quarterback since 2000
NUMBER 13: TYLER PALKO
2010, 2011
It was pretty close between Tyler Palko and Brodie Croyle for the bottom spot on the list, but ultimately I went with Croyle as the worst. Don’t get it twisted though, Palko was awful too, but the difference is that he actually won a game while starting for the Chiefs… Even as bad as he was!
Palko would win just one game as a Chief and his numbers were not good at all. He filled in for an injured Matt Cassel in 2011, starting four games (appearing in six) and throwing for 796 yards, two touchdowns, and seven interceptions. Those are gross stats.
Palko was so bad that the Chiefs actually went out and acquired Kyle Orton near the end of the 2011 season. KYLE ORTON. Palko was benched for obvious reasons and replaced by Orton near the end of the season. It shouldn’t surprise anyone, but Palko was out of the league after 2011 and not heard from again.
I could hear any argument as to why Palko should be put at number 14, but even he was able to win a game. That’s still something Brodie Croyle couldn’t do, even with Tony Gonzalez at his disposal for most of those years.
Oh, and let’s not forget that time Palko connected with Dexter McCluster for a Hail Mary against the Bears! That ended up being the game winning touchdown pass! Yay!
Most people would probably say Palko was the worst starting quarterback for the Chiefs maybe EVER, but you know what? That Hail Mary alone might have taken him out of that spot in my book. He was still bad though. Not arguing that at all.
