NUMBER 1: TRENT GREEN

2001-2006

The best starting quarterback for the Kansas City Chiefs since the year 2000 is Trent Green, who was under center from 2001-2006. As I mentioned on Smith’s slide, there could be an argument between who is number one and who is number two between Smith and Green, but I went with Green here.

Green threw for 21,459 yards, 118 touchdowns, and 85 interceptions. The interception numbers between the two are INSANE, but Green also aired the ball out more than Smith did. He also was the quarterback for one of the best Chiefs offenses ever in 2003.

In that 2003 season, Green threw for 4,039 yards, 24 touchdowns, and 12 interceptions. The Chiefs would go on to win the division and the number one seed that year, but we all know how that playoff story ended. It wasn’t Green’s fault why the Chiefs lost that game though. Had the Chiefs had ANY defense whatsoever, perhaps the 2003 season would have had a much happier ending.

Green was incredibly reliable in Kansas City, starting all 16 games in the first five years of his Chiefs career. It wasn’t until the 2006 season that Green missed time due to injury and that ended up getting him traded at the end of the season.

While it was tough picking between Green and Smith for number one, I went with Trent Green because he threw for more yards and touchdowns than Smith did. Smith had more overall success with the team, but I think when push came to shove, if fans could pick Green in his prime or Smith in his prime, they’d take Green.
