Kansas City Royals: Best Pitchers of All-Time in Wins Above Replacement
ALL-TIME LEADERS IN WAR FOR PITCHERS – NUMBER 3: MARK GUBICZA
Royals Pitcher from 1984-1996 (WAR – 38.2)
We now skyrocket to Mark Gubicza‘s 38.2 WAR, which he earned after playing for the KC Royals for 13 years of his 14-year MLB career. Gubicza was a second round pick by the Royals in 1981 and three years later he’d start 29 games for the Royals.
Gubicza’s two best years for the Royals came in 1988 and 1989, where he made the All-Star Game both years. He started a career high 36 games in that 1989 season.
Mark Gubicza finished up his 13-year Royals career with a 3.91 ERA, 1.356 WHIP, and recorded 132 wins during that time. As mentioned above, he made it to two All-Star games and is one of the longest tenured Royals.
Gubicza played the final year of his career in Anaheim with the Angels, which is also who he works for now, only on the broadcast team. Even with some up and down seasons near the end of his Kansas City tenure, Mark Gubicza is still one of the best Royals pitchers of all-time and his 38.2 WAR proves just that.
