Kansas City Royals: Best Pitchers of All-Time in Wins Above Replacement
ALL-TIME LEADERS IN WAR FOR PITCHERS – NUMBER 6: DAN QUISENBERRY
Royals Pitcher from 1979 – 1988 (WAR – 25.5)
Now we come to the best closer in Kansas City Royals history in Dan Quisenberry. Quisenberry spent ten years in a Royals uniform and during that time had a WAR of 25.5. Even younger people like myself who weren’t alive when Quisenberry was doing his thing know how dominant of a reliever he was.
Quisenberry recorded 238 saves throughout his ten years in Kansas City. He had a stretch from 1982 to 1985 where he was arguably the best closer in baseball, posting at least 33 saves during that time. His highest save total was in 1983 when he had a whopping 45 saves!
Quisenberry was a three-time All-Star, a five-time Rolaids Reliever of the Year, and a 1985 World Champion. He finished his decade long career in Kansas City with an ERA of 2.55, 1.150 WHIP, 238 saves, and 3.25 FIP in 920.1 innings.
When looking back at the best Royals pitchers in team history, Quisenberry is certainly up there. He’s definitely THE best reliever the organization has ever had and we’ve had some good ones here in Kansas City.
