SALVADOR PEREZ

When it comes to fan favorites, Salvador Perez is the top of that list for Royals fans. While it could make sense to trade Perez, the chances of the Royals getting their money’s worth in exchange for him is unlikely. It’d take a blockbuster deal for Perez to get dealt and that’s probably why the inventor of the Salvy splash is safe this season.

Catcher is an interesting position because of the toll it takes on a player’s body. Catchers squat for the duration of the game, which is typically why they’ll get to rest on a day game after a night game or if the team has played a lot of games in a row. Perez tends to DH in the games where he isn’t catching because his bat is that important to the lineup.

Hell, the Royals needed Salvy’s bat so bad that they played him at first base when the Royals were in St. Louis last week. The National League has no designated hitter, so that’s why the Royals were forced to do that.

Perez is a bit underpaid for how good of a player he is, which would make him appealing to other teams. With that said, however, it’d take a huge haul to acquire him and I doubt teams would be willing to part with those pieces in exchange for a 28-year old catcher who is at his peak right now.

The ONLY way I could see a team seriously inquiring about Perez would be if their starting catcher were to miss a large chunk of time. Even then, would it be worth as many prospects as it’d take to acquire Perez? Probably not.
