Kansas City Royals: Five players who won’t be traded at the deadline
IAN KENNEDY
Even if Ian Kennedy was having an All-Star type of season, it’d still be difficult for the Royals to trade him simply due to how awful his contract is. The Royals are tied to Kennedy for the next two seasons and he’s due at least $16 million in each of the next two years. Not exactly an appealing contract for other teams to takeover.
It doesn’t help that Kennedy isn’t pitching very well this year, currently sitting with a 5.15 ERA. Last year Kennedy had an ERA over five, battled injuries, and overall hasn’t been worth what the Royals are paying him. That’d make it tough for another team to trade for him.
Even if another team did bite on Kennedy, the Royals would probably still be on the hook for a good portion of his salary. They also probably wouldn’t get a great prospect in return.
The fact of the matter is that the Kansas City Royals are probably stuck with Ian Kennedy until the end of the 2020 season. That contract could very well go down as the worst in franchise history.
