The backup race: Alex Ellis

After the release of defensive lineman Rakeem Nunez-Roches, the Chiefs filled the open slot by claiming Ellis off of waivers. Ellis was released by the New Orleans Saints, which made him up-for-grabs for the Kansas City Chiefs.

Adding Ellis also gives the Chiefs maneuverability at the tight end position. This was not the most flashy signing by the Kansas City Chiefs, but it was a must-need.

Ellis entered the league in 2016 and played for the Jacksonville Jaguars. There he had three receptions for eleven total yards.

After being released by the Jaguars, and then by the Saints, Ellis looks to prove his worth with the Chiefs. He may not have the best chance to make the roster, but as you probably know, anything is possible with Brett Veach as the general manager.
