Kansas City Chiefs: Setting 2018 rookie expectations
By Kyle Hull
Kahlil McKenzie, Defensive Line, Tennessee
With the last pick for the Kansas City Chiefs in the 2018 NFL Draft, they selected defensive lineman Kahlil McKenzie. Ironically enough, McKenzie is the son of Raiders general manager Reggie McKenzie.
The Chiefs probably drafted McKenzie for his size and his potential. However, they did not draft him in hopes for him to be a defensive lineman for the team. Veach actually drafted him in hopes of transitioning from defensive line to offensive line.
If you look up his name on Google Images, you will find plenty of pictures of him, and say “Wow”. His lower build is actually quite terrifying, which is something you want as an offensive lineman.
Setting his expectations is a challenge. Once a player transitions from defensive line to offensive line, there is not very many successful attempts.
So, let’s say he does perfect the offensive line position. Short term wise, I have McKenzie not starting right away, as he works to polish the new position.
Long-term wise, let’s say four seasons later, I have McKenzie starting for the KC Chiefs on the line. With this transition, I find it very hard to decide what to expect from McKenzie, but I sure do hope it works.
