Tremon Smith, Cornerback, Central Arkansas

A cornerback from a small university, Tremon Smith found his way into the NFL draft, and was selected by the Kansas City Chiefs in the sixth round. Despite playing at Central Arkansas, Smith’s ability to play cornerback is very impressive.

Smith has speed, determination, and plenty of confidence while on the football field. While playing quarterback and wide receiver in high school, Smith’s transition to cornerback in college worked out for the better.

Some might call Smith a steal in the sixth round, as his talent was hidden due to the Central Arkansas name across his chest. Watching him attempting to transition into the NFL will be an exciting element to keep an eye on.

Setting his short-term expectations is easy. I have Smith delivering a majority of his playing time on special teams. With his speed, Smith could replace wide receiver Tyreek Hill’s duties of returning kickoffs and punts.

Long-term, I see Tremon staying on the defensive side of the football and being a rotational cornerback for the defense. Smith is an interesting prospect and I do not know if I have ever been this excited for a late-round draft selection.
