Tackle

Returning: Mitchell Schwartz, Eric Fisher, Cameron Erving,

In: Ryan Hunter, Andrew Wylie, Dillon Gordon

It’s sometimes easy to overlook the job Schwartz does at right tackle. Since entering the NFL with Cleveland, he has started 96 games in a row at right tackle. He grades out at a robust 80.1 on Pro Football Focus, which is the best grade of any Chiefs offensive lineman. And he’s a bargain, slated to make $17.7 million over the next three seasons.

Fisher, who signed a $48 million extension before the 2016 season, still patrols the left side. He has worked hard to make himself a quality player, and the results are mixed. He’s an adequate pass blocker but still struggles to control his man on running plays.

Fisher will always be judged by his draft position and fans expected more than “serviceable” by this point. Judging by some of the other picks in the historically weak 2013 draft, an average starter entering his seventh year puts them ahead of the game.

Hunter is an intriguing player. He’s Canadian but played in college at Bowling Green. The Chiefs have already declined Erving’s fifth-year option, and Hunter could make an ideal apprentice. Wylie and Gordon have each spent time on various practice squads but are yet to be active.
