By Scott Steehn
Halfback
Returning: Kareem Hunt, Spencer Ware, Charcandrick West
Out: Akeem Hunt
In: Darrell Williams, Kerwynn Williams, Damien Williams
Kareem Hunt is back for his second season after the former third-rounder had a surprising breakout rookie year. He led the NFL in rushing after tallying 1,327 yards. The versatile Hunt also caught 53 balls for 453 yards and tallied 11 total touchdowns.

The Chiefs entered last season with Spencer Ware as the featured back. However, Ware suffered two torn ligaments in his knee against Seattle in the preseason. After surgery and a year of intense rehab, he’s hoping to return to 2016 form when he gained 1,368 yards from scrimmage.
After cutting Akeem Hunt, the Chiefs are still searching for a reliable third-down back. Charcandrick West’s days could be numbered, but the Chiefs brought in a trio of Williams’ to compete for the job. It is worth noting that Hunt was brought back, but does not currently take a roster spot.
Damien Williams would seem to be the best fit, having hauled in 85 passes and six touchdowns in his four seasons as a Dolphin. At 5′ 11″ and 224 pounds, he has the size to provide an extra level of protection for Mahomes.
Though early returns on rookie undrafted free agent Darrel Williams are positive, the guess here is the Chiefs go with a veteran and try and sneak the rookie from LSU onto the practice squad.

Returning: Anthony Sherman
Anthony Sherman inked a one-year, $2 million extension during the offseason. Though “Tank” was on the field for only 17.5% of the offensive snaps last season, he continues to be one the team’s top performers on special teams.
