Quarterback

Returning: Patrick Mahomes

Out: Alex Smith, Tyler Bray

In: Chad Henne, Matt McGloin

In the 2017 NFL Draft, the Chiefs traded their first-round pick in the 2018 draft to switch positions with the Buffalo Bills. They moved up 17 spots in the first round and took gunslinger, Patrick Mahomes with the tenth overall pick.

The Texas Tech product became the first signal caller picked in the first round by the Chiefs since1983. He has a tremendous upside, but there are likely to be some growing pains.

The Chiefs added two veterans as backups in Chad Henne and Matt McGloin.

Henne spent the last five seasons with Jacksonville and hasn’t started a game since 2014. He’s 18-35 as a starter, with 58 career TD passes against 63 interceptions. The ex-Michigan Wolverine is 35-years-old.

Former Penn State Nittany Lion Matt McGloin has spent his entire four-year NFL career with the Raiders. He has seven career starts, with the first six coming after he took over for an ineffective Terrell Pryor in 2013. He’s 1-6 as a starter with 11 touchdowns and 11 interceptions.

So, as Mahomes goes, so goes the offense. If he is injured or ineffective, two guys with a combined record as starters of 19-41 are unlikely to save the season.
