Spencer Ware

Spencer Ware probably doesn’t get the credit he deserves. Many Chiefs don’t realize he has only played three seasons in the NFL. He started his career with the Seattle Seahawks in 2013 before the Chiefs signed him in 2015. He played in 11 games, rushing for 403 yards and six touchdowns.

In 2016, Ware was named the starter over often injured Jamaal Charles. In 14 games played that season, he totaled 921 yards and three touchdowns on the ground. He also grabbed 33 catches for 447 yards and two touchdowns through the air. Kansas City had themselves a starting running back.

In a sorry way, when he suffered a torn PCL against Seattle in the 2017 preseason, it paved the way for Kareem Hunt to have the masterful rookie season he had.

Spencer Ware is not your average flake running back. He is actually very good. Is he Kareem Hunt? No. Could he start on some NFL teams? Yes. This bodes well for the Chiefs, who happen to be loaded at running back with viable options everywhere you turn.

If Ware can come back fully healthy and ready to go, he is an excellent compliment to Kareem Hunt in the backfield. Ware often goes unmentioned when talking about the Chiefs weapons, but he has more than proved that he can play in this league and be successful.

Hunt averaged 4.9 yards per rush in 2017. Ware has averaged 4.6 yards over his career.
