The Kansas City Chiefs traded up once again in the 2018 NFL Draft. This time they went up to 75th overall and added Florida State nose tackle Derrick Nnadi to their squad.

The Kansas City Chiefs continued to wheel-and-deal, moving up in the third-round to grab Derrick Nnadi, a 6’1″ 316-pound nose tackle from Florida State. Nnadi, a senior, recorded 53 tackles last season, with ten for loss and three and a half sacks.

NFL.com had this to say about the newest Chief:

"It’s hard to find “bad tape” for Nnadi. While NFL teams may see an undersized 4-3 nose tackle with limited pass rush value, I see a player with good power at the point of attack who can dislodge from single blocks and make plays. Nnadi has a good motor, active hands and enough pass rush ability to cause problems for blockers up front."

Even though most analysts projected him as more of a 4-3 guy, the Chiefs obviously seem to believe he can step in at the nose tackle despite being a little undersized. He’ll need to learn a little more quickness at the point of attack and make sure his motor is in high gear, even when he initially gets hit in the mouth by the guard.

This is a good pick for the Chiefs, as it’s clear they’re looking to focus on defense. Nnadi will help them plug holes in the run game, which is an area that the Chiefs have struggled in over the last few years.

The Chiefs have one more pick in the third round (as of now) and it’ll be interesting to see what they decide to do with it. Nnadi could end up being a steal for the Chiefs, even if not many Chiefs fans knew of his name much beforehand. Third round picks have that power.

If the Chiefs can turn Nnadi into an every week starter, it’d continue their success of finding talent in the third round. We all know Andy Reid is good at finding gems at this point in the draft and Nnadi seems promising.

With Bennie Logan gone, this pick makes a lot of sense for the Kansas City Chiefs. Expect Derrick Nnadi to make an immediate impact in the Chiefs defense and hopefully he can become the next great run stopper in Kansas City.
