EVERY CHIEFS FIRST ROUND PICK – 2002 NFL DRAFT: RYAN SIMS

So far, not so good for this list, as the next player the Chiefs took in the first round didn’t amount to much of anything while in a Chiefs uniform. In the 2002 NFL Draft, the KC Chiefs held the sixth overall pick and selected Ryan Sims out of North Carolina.

Sims would go on to be one of the worst first-round picks in Chiefs history. While Sylvester Morris was a bust, it wasn’t because of his play or his attitude, but because of injuries. Sims was another story, bringing an attitude with him to Kansas City and a lack of work ethic.

In five seasons with the Chiefs, Sims totaled just five sacks during that time. When looking at some of the biggest draft busts in Chiefs history, Ryan Sims is always included and that’s well deserved. The guy did a whole lot of nothing during his time in Kansas City.

Sims wouldn’t be re-signed after 2006 and moved onto Tampa Bay, where he finished out his pro career in 2010. The fact that he somehow lasted in the NFL for nine seasons is mind-boggling, but Tampa obviously saw something in him that the Chiefs didn’t.

Sims will always be one of the first names to come to mind when it comes to draft busts and for good reason.

WHO KC COULD HAVE HAD: Bryant McKinnie (7TH OVERALL), Dwight Freeney (11TH OVERALL), Ed Reed (24TH OVERALL)
