2018 NFL Draft: KC Kingdom Mock Draft

New Orleans Saints – Leigh Oleszczak

Mike Gesicki. 27. player. 15. . Tight End. Penn State

The New Orleans Saints had a few directions they could go in for their first round pick, but they ultimately went with Mike Gesicki. Tight end was one of the biggest needs for the Saints and with the top quarterbacks being off the board and New Orleans having another year before NEEDING to draft a quarterback, they take the first tight end in the draft.

Gesicki will be a perfect fit for the Saints too, as he had nine trips into the end zone last year. Drew Brees loves throwing to his tight end, so this should be a very popular pick in the Big Easy.

Staff Reaction: The Saints are so desperate to find a tight end to help Drew Brees that they reach with this pick. Gesicki is a good player with solid hand who runs good routes. He is not a player who will stretch the field or be dangerous after the catch.

He’s a poor blocker and does not have the speed to make him a threat to defenses. He’ll be a good safety blanket, but he’s a guy the Saints could have gotten in the 2nd round. – Britt Zank
