2018 NFL Draft: KC Kingdom Mock Draft

Atlanta Falcons – Britt Zank

Defensive Tackle. Alabama. Da'Ron Payne. 26. player. 44.

This pick may take a few moments for the Falcons to make, not because questioning the decision, but recovering from the shock that he’s still available. By any draft guide or expert you will see that Da’Ron Payne is listed anywhere from the first to third best interior defensive lineman in this draft class.

The 6’2 315lb nose tackle is exactly what the Falcons will need to replace the departing Dontari Poe in the middle of the line. He’s a solid run stuffer who will need to work on his pass rush to become elite, but as is he projects as a Pro Bowl caliber starter.

Staff Reaction: Falcons fill their biggest need after losing both Poe and Clayborn to free agency. Payne is a freakish athlete who is more comfortable inside but could conceivably slide to end if needed. – Scott Steehn
