ROUGH START TO THE YEAR

I don’t like the first quarter of the season for the Kansas City Chiefs. Their first four games are against tough opponents and three of those four games will come on the road.

The season opener will occur in Los Angeles against the Chargers and while that won’t necessarily be home field advantage for the Bolts (see any home game for the Chargers last year), that’s a tough team to have to start the year against. Not to mention the Chargers are due for a win against the Chiefs, not having beat them since 2013.

The last time the Chiefs opened the season against the Chargers came in 2016 when they trailed by as much as 24-3 before marching back to win in overtime. That was one hell of an opener!

In week two, the Chiefs travel to face the Steelers, who have simply had KC’s number for the duration of Ben Roethlisberger’s career. If nothing else, at least the Chiefs will get that match-up out of the way early.

Week three will be the home opener at Arrowhead and the 49ers will be coming to town. This game is a lot less intriguing for the Chiefs now that Alex Smith is gone (the Niners were his team for eight years), but Jimmy Garoppolo in his first full season as a starter brings a different type of intrigue.

Finally, week four will be on Monday Night Football against the Broncos in Denver. It’s not that the Broncos scare me like they did a few years back, but playing there in primetime and against a team that is due for a victory against the Chiefs makes me anxious for sure.
