CORNERBACK

Chiefs Kingdom had high hopes with the pairing of Marcus Peters and newly acquired Kendall Fuller this offseason. Then, suddenly fans were all shaken with the news of Peters being traded to the Los Angeles Rams.

Chiefs fans have seen a good portion of that position group head for different teams since the Peters trade. Steven Nelson is the only noticeable name left after the great exodus. The additions of Fuller and ex-Raider David Amerson are promising, but there isn’€™t much talented depth or experience on the roster. The Chiefs definitely need to look for a player who can help solidified a young position group with talent and promise.

It seems as though Bob Sutton likes bigger, more physical corners. Auburn’s Carlton Davis fits that bill. A three-year starter with 138 tackles, according to his bio on Auburn’s website, he would be a solid addition to the Chiefs roster.

Watching the Chiefs corners trying to make tackles last season was agonizing. The 6’€™1″, 206 pound cornerback doesn’t appear to be a real ball hawk, but shows signs of being a very good tackler. His 138 tackles in 38 games is much better than the 57 tackles in 38 games by this year’s top cornerback prospect, Ohio State’s Denzel Ward.

If the Chiefs can manage to improve their pass rush, the ball hawking from this group will take care of itself. At this point tackling needs to be the priority and Carlton Davis could be potential fit for that need.
