ROUND 6 – PICK 22 (196TH OVERALL): CHRISTIAN SAM, LB (ARIZONA STATE)

The Chiefs have now been able to add yet another defensive talent, this time Christian Sam out of Arizona State. Sam missed nearly his entire junior season in 2016, but bounced back mightily as a senior last year to the tune of 127 tackles (nine and a half for loss) and three sacks.

Sam is able to do what a lot of NFL players haven’t been able to do lately and that’s tackle. He appears to be that type of player who is always wherever the football is and that’s a wonderful trait to have in a college player.

With Derrick Johnson no longer on the team, the Chiefs are going to be looking for inside linebacker options. Reggie Ragland had a great first season in Kansas City and he’d be an awesome mentor for Christian Sam to have during his first few years as a Chief.

Sam has the athleticism to be a late pick on Day 2 or an early pick on Day 3. His bounce back season in 2017 shows that he’s a fighter and he’s definitely an intriguing prospect entering the draft.

What the experts are saying…

"“He makes a bunch of stops and he’s always around the ball but you never really see those ‘run the tape back again’ type of plays to get you excited.” — AFC Personnel executive, NFL.com"
