The Kansas City Royals begin their 2018 campaign on Thursday and while not many fans have high hopes for them, there are ways the team can exceed expectations.

When the 2017 season ended and free agency officially began, the Kansas City Royals were headed into a new era of Royals baseball. Eric Hosmer and Lorenzo Cain are both gone and Mike Moustakas and Alcides Escobar are only back on one-year deals, meaning that this team will have a much different vibe than years past.

Even with Hosmer, Cain, and Jason Vargas off to other towns and other cities, the Royals could still surprise some people in 2018. Does that mean they’ll make the playoffs? Not likely, but with a lot of luck (and I mean a lot), then anything is possible.

I decided to compile a list of what could make this season end up as a success for the Kansas City Royals. Now, I’m going to reiterate that success this year doesn’t mean the playoffs. None of us are expecting the team to make a postseason push, so obviously if they get close to that, it’ll end up as a GREAT season.

This list is more going to be focusing more on the players and if we should feel confident in this club moving forward.
