ROUND 7 – PICK 25 (243RD OVERALL) – MIKE WHITE, QB (WESTERN KENTUCKY)

With their final selection in the 2018 NFL Mock Draft, the Kansas City Chiefs add a quarterback. It’s not one of the bigger names in the draft, but Mike White out of Western Kentucky is still someone who could be a nice third string piece and maybe eventually the future backup.

Draft projections are all over the place when it comes to White and it makes perfect sense as to why. NFL.com has him as a third round prospect while this particular mock draft had him still available in the seventh round of the draft.

My guess as to why White could drop to a Day 3 selection is that he played for a smaller school in a smaller conference and therefore the opponents weren’t as tough. White started off at South Florida for two seasons and then transferred to Western Kentucky, where things clicked for him as a college quarterback.

White finished his final college season with 4,177 passing yards, 26 touchdowns, and eight interceptions. The fact that White was able to accomplish that much with an atrocious offensive line is pretty remarkable.

We all know that Patrick Mahomes is the franchise quarterback for the KC Chiefs and that Chad Henne is the veteran backup for the next two years. There’s still a need for a third string signal caller and that’s why drafting a quarterback in one of the later rounds makes sense for Kansas City.

Mike White could spend two years as the third stringer and then once Henne’s contract is up, hopefully he’d be seasoned enough to move into a backup role.

What the experts are saying…

"“I’m having a hard time with him because his protection was just so bad. Some of those sacks were his but sometimes he didn’t even have a chance. I’m going to keep him alive because he’s a talented passer and he’s got size.” — AFC team regional scout, NFL.com"
