ROUND 6 – PICK 22 (196TH OVERALL): DA’SHAWN HAND, DL (ALABAMA)

When it comes to the 2018 NFL Draft, most would agree that the Kansas City Chiefs need to focus predominantly on defense. Da’Shawn Hand would be yet another defensive selection who could help them down the road.

Hand was a highly recruited high school player, but that success didn’t translate as much in college as people had hoped. Hand finished his senior season at Alabama with 27 total tackles and three sacks.

What held Hand back at Alabama was that the Crimson Tide had a lot of depth defensively, which in turn, kept him off the field. He wouldn’t have that problem as much in Kansas City, as they’re looking to get younger defensively.

Late round picks are usually nothing more than adding depth, but the Chiefs have shown that they can find some gems in the later rounds. Hand could be the next big brooding lineman or he could be someone that mainly sees occasional snaps. Either way, he’s worth a late round selection.

What the experts are saying…

"Hand is a versatile defender who could be targeted as a base end who reduces inside on passing downs. He’ll likely be drafted on Day 2 based on the traits, but he’s hardly a lock to match the production to the talent as a pro. – Lance Zierlein, NFL.com"
