ROUND 4 – PICK 22 (122ND OVERALL): SHAQUEM GRIFFIN, LB (CENTRAL FLORIDA)
Quite frankly, I’m shocked that Shaquem Griffin was still available in the fourth round. This guy has an incredible story and he’s definitely going to be one of the main names to watch come draft weekend.
What we all know about Griffin is that he only has one hand, but that hasn’t prevented him from being one of the best players in college football over the last five years. Griffin was named the 2016 American Defensive Player of the Year and has continued to turn heads with his stellar play at Central Florida. He also crushed it at the Combine.
Last season, Griffin totaled seven sacks with 74 tackles (13.5 for loss) and had an interception on the year as well. The season prior, he had 11.5 sacks and 92 total tackles.
Obviously people are going to list not having a left hand as a weakness, but Griffin has shown that he can perform at a high level even with one hand. He should be a Day 3 pick, but I wouldn’t be shocked at all if someone takes him earlier. This kid can flat out play.
What the experts are saying…
"“The old staff signed him just to make sure they got his brother. The new staff realized the guy was a player and plugged him in and he wins Defensive Player of the Year in his conference. He doesn’t have a left hand. That’s going to limit him with some things and that’s going to hurt his draft value, but he’s fast and athletic and makes a ton of plays.” — NFC team scouting director, NFL.com"
