ROUND 3 – PICK 22 (86TH OVERALL): JAMES DANIELS, CENTER (IOWA)

With their third selection in the 2018 NFL Mock draft, the Kansas City Chiefs opt to add some depth to their offensive line. It might not seem like much, but the Chiefs reportedly reached out to free agent center Ryan Jensen, who ended up going to Tampa Bay on a huge contract.

That information made me wonder if the Chiefs don’t see Mitch Morse as their center of the future. It’s not difficult to blame them if not, as Morse hasn’t been the healthiest player and he has the ability to move around along the line. Perhaps he could play guard if the Chiefs added a new center.

James Daniels could be the Chiefs’ next option at center and it’s understandable as to why they’d be interested in drafting this guy. Daniels, like Morse, is someone who has spent time at other positions along the offensive line originally playing left guard for the Hawkeyes.

Daniels was moved to center in 2016 and that’s where he stuck. He was third-team All-Big Ten and honorable mention All-Team since being shifted over to the middle of the o-line. If the Chiefs are going to move on from Morse after this year, then look no further than James Daniels as his replacement.

What the experts are saying…

"He needs to get stronger, but he’s a plus run blocker and pass protector with a chance to become a Pro Bowl starter. -Lance Zierlein, NFL.com"
