MURRAY STATE

26-5 (16-2 in Ohio Valley Conference)

If the seeds don’t play out and West Virginia loses in the Round of 64, then the Shockers will get to play the 12th-seeded Murray State Racers. Murray State made it to the big dance by winning the Ohio Valley Conference Tournament.

The Racers might be a popular pick by people to be an underdog in the first round and for good reason. The team was led in scoring by Jonathan Stark, who averaged 21.8 points per game. Stark is the heart and soul of Murray State and if he’s having an off day, this game should result in a lopsided win for the Shockers.

Murray State didn’t fare all that well against top opponents during the season, losing to Auburn on a neutral court and against Middle Tennessee. This should make Wichita State fans happy, but if the Riders are able to knock off the Mountaineers, then that means they’ll be fired up and ready to take on whoever.

Underdogs should never be overlooked in March Madness, so I’m definitely not ruling out Murray State to be the team who faces Wichita State in the Round of 32.
