WEST VIRGINIA

24-10 (11-7 in Big XII)

If the seeds play themselves out in the first round, then the Wichita State Shockers will be squaring off against the Mountaineers of West Virginia. WVU came in second in the Big XII and are always locks to make the tournament each year.

Jevon Carter is the name to watch for the Mountaineers, as he averaged 17 points a game this past season. Daxter Miles is also another scoring threat, averaging 13 points a game. Miles double digits in all three games during the Big XII Tournament with 19 against Baylor, 22 against Texas Tech and 25 against Kansas in the championship game.

The key to slowing down the Mountaineers will be limiting those two from having big games. The Shockers might be the higher seed, but barely in this round. West Virginia is always a threat come March and they have the offensive fire power and the “press” ability to drive the opposition crazy.

This will be a close game, but should be a fun match-up if both teams do advance to the Round of 32.
