Wichita State Shockers: Potential opponents for first two rounds
MARSHALL
24-10 (12-6 in Conference USA)
Marshall got to put on their dancing shoes for the first time since 1988 and won their way into the tournament by winning the Conference USA Tournament. They were fourth in their conference during the season, but with the smaller conferences, it’s all about winning the tournament at the end of the season.
Wichita State should be able to handle the Thundering Herd, but we’ve seen 13-seeds upset four-seeds in the past (including Buffalo beating Arizona on Thursday) so this definitely isn’t a game to overlook. Marshall’s scariest player is Jon Elmore, who was on fire during the Conference USA Tournament.
Chip Patterson of CBS Sports wrote an article on how Elmore makes Marshall a more dangerous team than many will give them credit for.
"Despite being one of the most efficient scorers in the country and a statistically all-time great for Marshall and Conference USA basketball, Elmore might be flying below the radar for a lot of college basketball fans."
Stopping Elmore will be the key to the Shockers fighting off the Thundering Herd. If they can shut Elmore down, the victory should be pretty easy to obtain.
