Kansas Basketball: Get to know potential opponents in round of 64
By Chris Taylor
Get to know N.C. State
North Carolina State Wolfpack: 21-11 (11-7)
Head Coach: Kevin Keatts
How they got here: At-large bid
The Wolfpack have been a bit of a surprise this season. Expectations were not too high when the season started. In head coach Kevin Keatts first year with N.C. State they finished third in the ACC. These kids are fighters for sure.
They have three wins on the season that stand right out when you look at their roster. Arizona at a neutral site, Duke at home and North Carolina at Roy’s place.
Starting lineup:
- #14 Omer Yurtseven C 7′-0″
- #11 Markell Johnson G 6′-1″
- #10 Braxton Beverly G 6′-0″
- #2 Torin Dorn G 6′-5″
- #12 Allerik Freeman G 6′-3″
Yurtseven can be a pain for opponents. The seven footer leads the team in rebounds at seven per game, which isn’t a lot, but it’s the other things he does that causes opponents of the Wolfpack trouble. He is shooting over 50 percent from three, which is amazing for such a big guy. He averages 14 points per contest.
Freeman leads the team in scoring, averaging just over 15 points a game. Dorn is the only other player that averages over 10 points per game for the Wolfpack.
N.C. State is not a good rebounding team, neither are the Jayhawks. However the new-look Silvio De Sousa could change that throughout the tourney. If the Wolfpack make it past Seton Hall, they should struggle against the offensive power of Kansas. They are not a good defensive team, which usually doesn’t bide well for teams playing the Jayhawks.
Next: Worst March Madness losses for Kansas
There just isn’t any one player that seems to be capable of carrying Cinderellas’ slipper on this team, so if Kansas does meet the Wolfpack, it should be safe to punch your ticket to the sweet sixteen. All eyes will be on this game for sure.
