Get to know Seton Hall

Seton Hall Pirates: 21-11 (10-8)

Head Coach: Kevin Willard

How they got here: At-large bid

Seton Hall is a scary, scary team. The Pirates finished third in the Big East Conference behind Xavier and Villanova. Ask those two teams about Seton Hall and they will tell you they sure don’t want to face them again this season.

In the last three games the Pirates are 1-2, but those two losses are by a combined two points against Villanova and Butler. Many are predicting that this team will knock out the Jayhawks if they can get past N.C. State.

Starting lineup:

  • #1 Michael Nzei F 6′-8″
  • #31 Angel Delgado C 6’10”
  • #22 Myles Cale G 6′-5″
  • #0 Khadeen Carrington G 6′-4″
  • #13 Myles Powell G 6′-2″
  • #20 Desi Rodriguez F 6′-6″ (If healthy)

Rodriguez leads the Pirates in scoring this season, but the senior forward has had an ankle issue as of late. He came off the bench in the Pirates loss to Butler in the Big East tournament. If healthy, he averages just under 18 points per game.

Powell and Carrington both average around 15 points per game as well. Angel Delgado is my person of interest here. He averages 11 rebounds a game and should provide an interesting matchup with Kansas’ big men.

Kansas is the better team, but it’s always teams with the exact make up of Seton Hall that busts brackets wide open.

Special note: The Pirates have a kid on the team that has the greatest name in the tournament, it will be fun to hear announcers try to say his name. Sandro Mamukelashvili.
