ALL-TIME LEADERS IN RUSHING YARDS – NUMBER 9: TAYLOR MARTINEZ (2,975)

Nebraska Quarterback from 2010-2013

The first quarterback to appear on the all-time rushing yards list is Taylor Martinez, who is one of the more recent players that fans enjoyed watching. Martinez was definitely known for his running ability more so than his passing (although he is number two all-time in throwing the football).

Martinez first started for Nebraska as a freshman in 2010 where fans first got to see him run around on the gridiron. He finished that year with just under 1,000 yards rushing (965 to be exact) and recorded 12 touchdowns with his legs.

Those 12 touchdowns were the most in a season for Martinez, but he’d go over the 1,000 yard rushing yards mark as a junior in 2012. He totaled 1,019 yards and ten touchdowns in a season that saw the Huskers go 10-4 in just their second year in the Big Ten.

Nebraska was looking forward to seeing what Martinez’s final year with the Huskers would look like in 2013, but unfortunately he suffered several injuries and would play in just four games. He still totaled 117 yards rushing that year, but it was a disappointing end to Martinez’s college career.

Looking back, Taylor Martinez was definitely one of the most fun quarterbacks to watch. He sits in the top ten as far as rushing yards go and is second all-time in passing, sitting just behind Tommy Armstrong Jr.

Martinez wouldn’t play a game in the NFL, though he did spend time with the Eagles practice squad in 2014. Despite that, he was still one of the best quarterbacks for the Cornhuskers.
