ALL-TIME LEADERS IN RUSHING YARDS – NUMBER 10: I.M. HIPP (2,940)

Nebraska Running Back from 1977-1979

I.M. Hipp was able to rush for over 1,000 yards twice during his three seasons at Nebraska. In his first year in Lincoln, Hipp had 215 carries for 1,353 yards and ten touchdowns. He’d barely pass the 1,000 mark in 1978 with 1,002 and found the end zone seven times.

The Huskers went 9-3 in both of those seasons and went 10-2 in Hipp’s final year at Nebraska. He split carries with Rick Berns (who was 14th on this list) and while Hipp would have just 585 yards on the ground, he also scored four touchdowns.

Hipp was a fourth round pick by the Falcons in 1980, but wouldn’t play a game for them. He’d play just one game in the pros and it was for the Raiders. LA won the Super Bowl that year and Hipp got to be a part of it, which now makes two Huskers on this list that were Super Bowl champions.

That was Hipp’s lone season in the NFL, but he got a Super Bowl ring out of it. He’s also still in the top ten rushing yards for the Nebraska Cornhuskers.
