ALL-TIME LEADERS IN RUSHING YARDS – NUMBER 1: MIKE ROZIER (4,780)
Nebraska Running Back from 1981-1983
Was there any doubt who number one would be on this list? Of course, it’s Mike Rozier! Rozier shredded virtually every record for the Cornhuskers and to this day still sits as the all-time leading rusher for Nebraska football.
Rozier transferred to Nebraska after spending a year at community college and was wowing the Husker faithful right from the start. He finished his first year at Nebraska with 943 yards and five touchdowns. That was only the beginning for Mike Rozier.
As a junior in 1982, Rozier had 242 carries for 1,689 yards and 15 touchdowns. Looking at those stats, it’s tough to imagine having a better year than that, but Rozier crushed those numbers during his senior year in 1983.
During his final year in Lincoln, Rozier rushed the ball 275 times for an astounding 2,148 yards and 29 touchdowns. Unreal. Rozier’s efforts during his senior year didn’t go unnoticed, as he won the Heisman Trophy and deservedly so.
Mike Rozier played in the USFL and the NFL, where he spent eight years. There is never any doubt in any Husker fan’s mind when they’re asked who the best running back is in school history. It’s Mike Rozier and no one else comes close.
