ALL-TIME LEADERS IN RUSHING YARDS – NUMBER 4: ERIC CROUCH (3,434)

Nebraska Quarterback from 1998-2001

Here is the second quarterback to appear on this list and is anyone actually shocked to see that it’s Eric Crouch? Crouch is an all-time great and was definitely known for his running ability during his tenure as a Cornhusker.

Crouch was simply an incredible football player and he provided some truly amazing seasons for Nebraska football. He rushed for 3,434 yards (as a quarterback!) and added 59 rushing touchdowns to his resumé, which are both remarkable stats.

Crouch’s best season was as a senior in 2001 where he rushed for 1,115 yards and 18 touchdowns to go along with his 1,510 passing yards and seven touchdowns through the air. Crouch won the Heisman Trophy that year and is the last Nebraska player to have won the prestigious award.

Eric Crouch was a phenomenal quarterback for the Cornhuskers, but he entered the 2002 NFL Draft as a wide receiver and the Rams took him in the third round. He jumped around between a few teams in the pros and also spent time in the NFL Europe league, CFL, AAFL, and UFL.

Even with the lack of success as a pro football player, Eric Crouch is one of the all-time greats for Nebraska football. The fact that he’s fourth all-time in rushing yards speaks volumes about how great of an athlete the guy was. We may never see a quarterback like Eric Crouch ever again, but hopefully if we do, he’ll play for Nebraska.
