ALL-TIME LEADERS IN RUSHING YARDS – NUMBER 5: ROY HELU JR. (3,404)

Nebraska Running Back from 2007-2010

Before Rex Burkhead took over, the Huskers had Roy Helu Jr. carrying the football for them and he had two monstrous seasons for Nebraska. His first two years resulted in limited action, but he made his presence known as a junior in the 2009 season.

That particular season saw Helu put up 1,147 yards and ten touchdowns with his legs. The Huskers won the Big 12 North that season and shut out Arizona in the Holiday Bowl.

As a senior, Helu outdid himself once again, rushing for 1,245 yards and 11 touchdowns. Nebraska won the Big 12 North again that season, but lost in the Holiday Bowl to Washington.

Helu heard his name called in the fourth round of the 2011 NFL Draft by the Washington Redskins. He had a decent rookie season, appearing in 15 games (starting five) and rushing for over 600 yards with two touchdowns.

After four seasons  with the Redskins, Helu joined the Raiders for a year and was out of the league after 2015. He had a good five-year run in the pros and still sits in the top five when it comes to rushing yards at the University of Nebraska.
