2018 NFL Mock Draft: KC Chiefs attempt to replace Marcus Peters
ROUND 7: PICK 15 (233RD OVERALL) – EQUANIMEOUS ST. BROWN, WR (NOTRE DAME)
In the running for the coolest name in this year’s draft class, the Chiefs add a wide receiver in the final round of the draft with Equanimeous St. Brown out of Notre Dame. He spent three years at Notre Dame and is forgoing his senior year to enter the draft.
If St. Brown could have entered the draft as a sophomore in 2017, he definitely would have. He and DeShone Kizer had quite the connection in the 2016 season, as St. Brown led the team with 58 receptions for 961 yards and nine touchdowns that year.
Kizer left for the pros after 2016 and St. Brown’s numbers suffered as a result. He had 33 catches for 515 yards and four touchdowns as a junior, but his brother transferring to USC was enough to force St. Brown into turning pro.
With the Chiefs throwing Patrick Mahomes into the starting role in 2018, a plethora of weapons is a good idea. St. Brown has the size (6’5″ and 205 pounds) and the speed to be someone who could make some noise in the pros.
"At this stage, St. Brown is more of a threat than a weapon and his ceiling may be an average starter or WR3. — “Bottom Line” on Equanimeous St. Brown, NFL.com’s Draft Profile"
The good news as far as the wide receiver position is concerned is that it’s not a dire need for Kansas City. They have Tyreek Hill, Chris Conley, Demarcus Robinson, and some up and coming guys like Jehu Chesson and hopefully Gehrig Dieter. Not to mention if Albert Wilson re-signs, the unit will be as good as it’s been in years!
With all of that said, St. Brown wouldn’t be pressured into being elite. The seventh round is the perfect time to bring a receiver in and St. Brown could be a nice addition to this roster.
