ROUND 7: PICK 25 (243RD OVERALL) – COLEMAN SHELTON, C (WASHINGTON)

With their final pick in the 2018 NFL Draft, the Kansas City Chiefs bring on a center to add to their offensive line depth. With Mitch Morse struggling to stay healthy last year and Zach Fulton hitting free agency, the center position isn’t as stable as fans might have thought.

The Chiefs add to the depth by bringing in Coleman Shelton, who spent all four years of his collegiate career at Washington. Shelton is listed as a center in the draft, but he played all five positions along the line during his college career and that versatility is huge when entering the pros.

Play strength is the biggest knock on Shelton, to which Lance Zierlien of NFL.com had this to say,

"Shelton’s technique is solid and his initial quickness is good enough, but he needs to do a better job of gaining and maintaining positioning if he wants to find a way to cover up for his lack of necessary power and land NFL playing time."

The good news with this pick is that Coleman Shelton would only be starting if someone were injured. While the left guard spot is open, Shelton probably wouldn’t contend for that and would act predominantly as a swing lineman, much like what Fulton did during his time in Kansas City.
