ROUND 6: PICK 22 (199TH OVERALL) – J’MON MOORE, WR (MISSOURI)

After grabbing a tight end in the fifth round, the Chiefs continue to add offensive weapons and do so next with a local wide receiver. The need for a receiver isn’t all that prominent, but J’Mon Moore is worth a selection.

Moore had a great career at Missouri and improved each year with the Tigers. He led MU in receptions and receiving yards in 2017 with 65 catches for 1,082 yards with ten touchdowns, which are great numbers. It’d be shocking to see Moore slide all the way to the sixth round, but he did in this particular draft and the Chiefs didn’t hesitate to draft him 199th overall.

Going back to the Chiefs wide receiver situation, it’s the best it’s been in years. Tyreek Hill proved he can be a legitimate number one option and Chris Conley should be healthy and ready to go in 2018. Kansas City also saw strides in Demarcus Robinson‘s game in year two and there’s also Jehu Chesson and potentially Albert Wilson on the roster

If Wilson is not re-signed, then the Chiefs might decide to go after a wide receiver in the draft and J’Mon Moore would be a great addition. Moore wouldn’t be a top option in Kansas City, but the ability to become a second or third receiver for the Chiefs down the stretch is definitely a possibility.

Something concerning with Moore’s game, however as pointed out by NFL.com, is the amount of drops he’s had during his collegiate career. Moore really struggled with holding onto the football as a junior and was actually benched in a game as a result of those drops. He improved on that in 2017 though, which is a good sign.

There’s a lot to like about the direction the Chiefs are going in offensively, but fans won’t complain about adding another weapon for Patrick Mahomes. It’d be even cooler to have a local guy join the team.
