The KC Chiefs made a big move this offseason by trading their quarterback outside of the division (and the conference). What does the rest of the AFC West look like at the quarterback spot?

There’s not a more important position in the sport of football than at quarterback. He’s the guy who leads the offense and should, in most cases, be the most valuable player on the team. The KC Chiefs traded their signal caller of five years in Alex Smith to the Washington Redskins this offseason, but it was for good reason.

The Chiefs drafted Patrick Mahomes tenth overall last year (and traded up to do so), which made Smith expendable after the 2017 season wrapped up. Teams bit on Smith, but the Chiefs ultimately decided to ship him off to D.C. in exchange for a third round draft pick and cornerback Kendall Fuller.

With Smith out of the AFC West and onto the NFC East, what does the rest of the division have to offer at quarterback right now? Free agency hasn’t begun yet, but that only affects one team at the moment. The rest of the teams are pretty set in stone, at least with their starting signal caller.

Let’s take a look, going in order by AFC West placement last season.
