Kansas City Chiefs: 5 former Chiefs that could return in 2018
By Ben Almquist
#3 Jeremy Maclin – WR – Ravens
There may not have been a more surprising move for the Kansas City Chiefs this past offseason than when they cut Jeremy Maclin. In fact, it was a move that many have speculated ultimately cost John Dorsey his job as general manager. The close relationship of Maclin and Andy Reid makes this a very plausible reunion.
Jeremy Maclin did not have a good season for the Ravens this year. After having a lackluster showing the year before as well, it’s hard to see Maclin getting much of a contract offer. It wouldn’t be the least bit surprising if Kansas City is his best market. So KC should have an advantage there.
From a need perspective, Kansas City has a lot of young talent at wide receiver. However, they don’t have much in the way of veteran presence. Bringing in a guy like Jeremy Maclin could have a stabilizing effect for the rest of the group. At the same time, Maclin isn’t going to smother the young talent as he would have to compete for his job.
A lot of the factors involved here will be about how the Chiefs feel about their young corps of wide receivers. If they feel more is needed, Jeremy Maclin should be a top target.
