Despite being the general manager of the Kansas City Chiefs for less than a year, Brett Veach is making his mark. Here’s a breakdown of his early work.
In the wake of the blockbuster trade that made news this week, you can’t help but be impressed by the work of Kansas City Chiefs general manager Brett Veach. When the Chiefs hired Veach to replace John Dorsey last year, there were a lot of questions. However, the young GM has wasted no time in establishing his own body of work.
There has been a lot of talk about the Chiefs being in need of some major changes. Well, Brett Veach appears to be intent on bringing those changes. What we are seeing out of Kansas City right now is a very aggressive approach to team building. Veach has not shied away from targeting players nobody else would think are even available.
Of course, not every move is going to work out. Before we get too excited about the work that Brett Veach is doing, we need to take a step back and look at the whole picture. After all, this is still largely the same team that had yet another unceremonious exit from the playoffs this year.
Brett Veach has yet to select his first draft class but he has traded for: Kevin Pierre-Louis, Reggie Ragland, Cameron Erving, signed Darrelle Revis & potentially gotten back a day 2 pick and Kendall Fuller. He is aggressive at filling needs even without cap space.

So I’m putting on my teacher’s hat (it’s a fedora, by the way), to sit down and take a look at just what Brett Veach has done for the Chiefs. Though Veach hasn’t even been in the job for a full year, we do have plenty to grade him on. That’s exactly what I intend to do here.
We’ll start with his very first major decision for the Kansas City Chiefs…
