Kansas City Chiefs: Mr. Smith Goes To Washington

The Redskins Make Their Offer

If you don’t think the Kansas City Chiefs won this trade, I’ve got nothing for you. This was a completely one-sided affair, and the Chiefs are walking away laughing about it. Kansas City was in the driver’s seat of any trade negotiation, but it’s clear that the Redskins felt they had to come over the top.

In all, this is what the Chiefs netted in this trade:

  1. A young cornerback in Kendall Fuller that everyone agrees has a very bright future ahead of him. His teammates are upset to see him leave, and there aren’t many people defending the Redskins right now. Fuller was the centerpiece of everything for KC.
  2. An additional third-round pick, which is big for a team that was coming into the draft short-handed this year.
  3. Around $17 million in salary cap space…that won’t have to be spent on adding a starting cornerback.

Specifically regarding Kendall Fuller, there is no doubt that Brett Veach got exactly the offer he wanted there. Getting a prime young player at a position of need is all a general manager should need to hear to say yes to a deal. Getting that player in exchange for a player you are trying to move anyways is just as ideal as it gets.

Even if Kendall Fuller is “just a slot corner” (by the way, he isn’t), with the amount of Nickel and Dime that teams play now, that’s still a starter. This trade simply looks better and better for the Chiefs at every possible turn.
