2018 NFL Mock Draft: Kansas City Chiefs go heavy on defense
ROUND 6: PICK 34 (211TH OVERALL) – K.J. MALONE, GUARD (LSU)
Offensive line isn’t a huge priority, but the depth along the line is what the Chiefs should try to address at some point during the draft. They need a guy who can play left guard on a consistent level, but also someone who can be kind of a “swing” guy along the line.
K.J. Malone out of LSU could provide that for the Chiefs. The thing you’ll hear about Malone over and over again is that he’s the son of NBA Hall of Famer Karl Malone. Another cool tidbit about Malone is that he almost didn’t return to LSU for his senior season so that he could be a U.S. marshal.
Malone is listed in the draft as an offensive guard, but he actually started at left tackle during his time at LSU. We all know Eric Fisher has that left tackle job locked up for the time being, so Malone wouldn’t be utilized there. He’d probably be a depth piece honestly, but we saw how often injuries can happen along the line, so depth is nice to have there.
Don’t look for Kansas City to add an offensive lineman until later in the draft. Waiting until the sixth round (which is where they got both Laurent Duvernay-Tardif and Zach Fulton by the way) could be the way to go here.
